Puppy Blocks Railroad, But The Real Reason It Can’t Move Breaks Everyone’s Heart

Chapter 3: The Call for Help

hTe train screeched as it finally came to a halt, the massive engine groaning under the strain of the emergency stop. Ethan stood frozen, his body still vibrating with adrenaline as the cloud of dust and exhaust settled around him. The once-thundering sound of the train’s approach had faded into a tense, oppressive silence, broken only by the faint rustle of leaves in the wind.

His eyes locked onto the puppy, still huddled between the rails, its tiny body barely moving. Ethan’s breath caught in his throat as he rushed forward, his feet pounding against the gravel. Was it still alive?

He knelt beside the puppy, his hands trembling as he reached out to gently touch its fur. It was cold to the touch, but he could feel its chest rise and fall, shallow and rapid. The puppy was breathing, but it looked like it had been through hell.

“Please, don’t be dead,” Ethan whispered, his voice strained with desperation. “Please, be okay.”

As he cradled the puppy in his arms, his mind raced. What was this little creature doing on the tracks in the first place? And how had it managed to survive the train’s near collision? Was it a stray, abandoned like so many others? Or was it something more?

His thoughts were interrupted by the sound of footsteps behind him. The station master, a heavyset man with graying hair, hurried over to where Ethan knelt. His face was pale, and his hands shook as he glanced between Ethan and the puppy.

“You… you stopped the train in time,” the station master said, his voice cracking. “But why was that puppy on the tracks?”

Ethan shook his head, his gaze never leaving the fragile creature in his arms. “I don’t know. I saw it there and thought… I thought it was just lost. But something doesn’t feel right about this.”

The station master looked down at the puppy, his brow furrowing. “You’re right. Something’s off. I’ve been working here for years, and I’ve never seen anything like it. Who would leave a puppy on the tracks like that?”

Ethan’s pulse quickened. The more he thought about it, the more the situation felt wrong. The puppy wasn’t just lost—it was placed there. Someone had left it to die, or worse, they had intended for it to be found in that exact moment.

A chill ran down Ethan’s spine. “Someone put it there,” he muttered, more to himself than to the station master. “But why? Why would anyone do that?”

The station master’s expression hardened. “We need to figure this out, and fast. The authorities should be here soon, but you might be right. This isn’t just an accident. Someone’s involved.”

Ethan nodded, his mind racing. He couldn’t just let this go. There was something about the puppy’s situation that didn’t add up, and he couldn’t shake the feeling that this was only the beginning. But who would do something so cruel, and why?

As the station master turned to call for help, Ethan looked down at the puppy once more. Its eyes were half-closed, and it seemed to be losing consciousness.

“Hang on,” Ethan whispered softly, his voice barely a breath. “We’ll get you some help.”

But as the words left his mouth, a sudden thought struck him. What if the puppy wasn’t just a victim? What if it was trying to warn him? Something deeper, something far darker, was unfolding.

As the station master walked away to arrange for animal control, Ethan stood up, the weight of the situation pressing down on him. He had to find out what was really going on. And he had to do it before it was too late.

What had the puppy been trying to tell him?
