Puppy Blocks Railroad, But The Real Reason It Can’t Move Breaks Everyone’s Heart

Chapter 12: The Unexpected Ally

Ethan’s pulse was a drumbeat in his ears as the men in black moved closer, their cold hands reaching out to grab him. Dr. Maxwell stood firm in front of him, her body trembling but unyielding, her eyes filled with a fierce determination that Ethan could hardly comprehend. But it wasn’t enough.

The figure who had been leading them—the man who had called him Mr. Daniels—watched the scene unfold with an almost bored expression. His gaze flickered from Ethan to Dr. Maxwell, and then to the men advancing on them. He seemed content to let them do their work. Ethan’s stomach twisted as he realized that they had no intention of letting him go. He was trapped.

“No!” Dr. Maxwell shouted as one of the men grabbed her by the arms. She fought back, struggling against his hold, but the man was too strong.

Ethan’s mind was spinning. He could feel the tension in the air, the weight of the moment pressing down on him. His instincts screamed at him to do something—anything—but his body felt like it was frozen in place.

And then, just as the first man reached out to seize Ethan, a loud crash echoed from the hallway. The clinic door slammed open, and a figure appeared in the doorway, silhouetted against the harsh light from the hallway. It was a tall man, his features obscured by a dark hood and coat, but the moment he stepped inside, the men in black froze.

“Stop right there,” the newcomer said, his voice firm, commanding.

Ethan’s heart skipped a beat. Who was this? Was it someone here to help, or just another part of the tangled mess he was caught in?

The leader of the men in black narrowed his eyes, his posture stiffening as he assessed the newcomer. “And who the hell are you?” he demanded.

The man in the doorway didn’t flinch. “Someone you don’t want to mess with,” he replied coldly.

Ethan’s mind was racing. He couldn’t believe what he was seeing. The man was tall, his voice heavy with authority, and something about his presence sent a shiver down Ethan’s spine. Was he an ally, or just another obstacle in the way?

Without another word, the man moved forward, his movements precise and calculated. He didn’t waste time on threats or posturing. One of the men in black lunged toward him, but the newcomer was faster. In a blur of motion, he sidestepped the attack and grabbed the man by the wrist, twisting it in a way that made the man gasp in pain. With a swift motion, the man in black was sent crashing to the floor.

The others hesitated for a moment, clearly unsure how to react to the sudden disruption. But it was enough to give Ethan a moment of clarity. This stranger—whoever he was—wasn’t playing around. He had no intention of letting them take Ethan without a fight.

Dr. Maxwell, still struggling to break free from the man holding her, looked up at the newcomer with wide eyes. “Who are you?” she asked, her voice shaky but full of hope. “What do you want?”

The man didn’t immediately respond, his eyes scanning the room, calculating his next move. But there was something about the way he carried himself—a quiet confidence—that told Ethan this wasn’t the first time he had dealt with people like the ones in black.

“I’m here to help,” the man said simply. “But we need to move. Now.”

Without waiting for a response, he moved toward the door, his eyes locked onto Ethan. “Come with me, if you want to stay alive,” he said, his voice low but urgent.

Ethan stood frozen for a moment, still processing what was happening. He had no idea who this man was, but he didn’t have much choice. He glanced at Dr. Maxwell, who was still being held by one of the men in black. The look in her eyes—fear mixed with hope—told him everything he needed to know. They had to get out.

Before the men could regroup, the newcomer grabbed Ethan by the arm and pulled him toward the door.

But as they stepped into the hallway, Ethan caught a glimpse of something strange: a shadow, watching from the far end of the corridor. And it wasn’t alone.
